Dentist Adventures, Dog Wellness Check
I had a fun experience at the dentist today. It was just a regular cleaning but at some point I started to feel very faint—to the point where we had to stop the cleaning and I had to take a break. My dentist was very understanding and left me alone for a while to recover; she also completed the cleaning with the room lights off, which did help. I almost made it to the end without having to take another break but I ended up having to take another lil’ dentist chair nap. The cleaning wasn’t painful so I assume this was a weird hormone side effect of some kind. I generally don’t react well to medical situations so maybe being pregnant is just making me more sensitive. Baby was kicking a lot too so maybe she didn’t like it either. 😉 I’m fine now but took it easy this evening.
In other news, Boomer is still kickin’ around but the time is drawing near. He has good days and bad days. Today is a very good day and if not for the fact that he keeps falling over, you wouldn’t even know he was a thousand years old. He even ate all his food without any cheese (I do wonder if he has just bamboozled us into giving him cheese by holding out and not eating).
But even on good days I wonder about his quality of life—he can’t really go on walks anymore and mostly just lays around. We also believe that he “sundowns”—he paces at night, goes in little circles, and stares into space. Sometimes during the day he seems confused and we’re pretty sure his hearing is going. We thought he was just ignoring us but after accidentally sneaking up on and startling him a few times, we concluded that he probably can’t hear very well anymore.
But he still seems alert most of the time and cheerful and even tries to play from time to time, although these days “play” just looks like picking up a ball, showing it to us, and then sitting down with it. So it’s hard to know. I don’t want to Make the Decision too early but neither do I want to make it too late.
