Cocktail Roundup: Lemon Drop Martini

I don’t know why I did so many variations on this—probably because it’s basically a vodka sour and I’m very familiar with sours at this point.

Standard lemon drop martini.

Lilac lemon drop martini with house-made lilac syrup. The syrup took two attempts: the first one hardly tasted like anything because the first recipe I tried had equal parts lilac, sugar, and water. Turns out you gotta do at least twice as much lilac. If this batch hadn’t worked I’d have had to wait until next year because I didn’t want to kill our bush. 😛

I was making like 400 tiny cucumber sandwiches for a potluck so it seemed like a good time for a strawberry lemon drop with house-made strawberry syrup. Pro-tip: don’t comfort a nap-resistant baby while making your syrup because when you come back out of the nursery the syrup may have boiled over and made a huge sticky mess all over your stove. My official advice is to ignore your child.

Sparkling lemon drop. I had a totally genius, never-before-thought idea to put seltzer on an existing cocktail. Gonna open my own bar soon.
